PRIMA-SAFE at ecoSTP 2023: Exploring Innovative Water Reuse Solutions

The ecoSTP 2023 conference, held in Girona, Spain, from June 26th to 29th, 2023, provided a platform to discuss cutting-edge eco-technologies for wastewater treatment, water reuse, and resource recovery. This event brought together researchers and industry leaders to explore sustainable solutions for urban and industrial water management, emphasizing the importance of transferring knowledge into practical applications.

The Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) actively participated in the conference, showcasing their expertise in nature-based solutions and emerging contaminants. As part of the program, ICRA researcher Josephine Vosse presented findings from the PRIMA-SAFE project (PCI2022-132980; MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) during an oral short presentation titled:

  • “Plant growth potential of hotel greywater reuse in hydroponic systems”, authored by Vosse, J., Mendoza, E., Comas, J., and Buttiglieri, G.

The presentation highlighted the potential of reusing hotel greywater in hydroponic systems, demonstrating PRIMA-SAFE’s innovative approach to integrating water reuse with sustainable agricultural practices.

The conference also served as an excellent opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange. ICRA researchers, including Esther Mendoza, Zhen Wang, Maria Pau Garcia, Marta Turull, Lucas Alonso, Lúcia Helena Santos, Gianluigi Buttiglieri, Sofia Semitsoglou-Tsiapou, Marc Castaño-Trias, and Joaquim Comas, represented the institute and contributed to discussions on sustainable water management.

The PRIMA-SAFE project’s participation at ecoSTP 2023 underlines its commitment to advancing practical, sustainable solutions for water reuse while addressing critical challenges in agriculture and beyond.
