PRIMA-SAFE at ICWRR2024 & IWA-RMTC 2024: Exploring Greywater Reuse for Agriculture

The ICWRR2024 & IWA-RMTC 2024 Conference took place in Palermo, Italy, from June 18th to 21st, 2024. This event, combining the International Conference on Wider-Uptake of Water Resource Recovery from Wastewater Treatment and the 7th IWA Regional Membrane Technology Conference, brought together scientists, professionals, and academics to discuss innovative strategies for water resource recovery from wastewater treatment systems.

As part of the conference program, the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) contributed with a platform presentation by Josephine Vosse, a PhD researcher. Her presentation, titled:

  • “Greywater reuse for hydroponic food production: Nutrient supply, plant growth, and potential consumer health risk”, authored by Vosse, J., Semitsoglou, S., Santos, L.H.M.L.M., Mendoza, E., Comas, J., Rodriguez-Mozaz, S., and Buttiglieri, G,

focused on evaluating greywater reuse in hydroponic agriculture. The study addressed critical aspects such as nutrient availability for plants, the growth potential of food crops, and the associated health risks for consumers. This research aligns with PRIMA-SAFE’s objectives of promoting sustainable water reuse practices while ensuring environmental and human health safety.

The conference provided a valuable platform for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing discussions on sustainable solutions for water treatment and reuse, a core mission of the PRIMA-SAFE project.
